Metadata and DOI Policy

The Journal of AI and Integrative Medicine (JAIIM) is committed to ensuring the discoverability, accessibility, interoperability, and long-term preservation of published scholarly content through the assignment of persistent Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and the maintenance of accurate article metadata.

JAIIM registers Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) through Crossref and deposits standardized metadata to facilitate citation linking, indexing, discovery, and permanent identification of published research.

This policy aligns with the recommendations of Crossref, the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and international best practices in scholarly publishing.

1. Purpose

The objectives of this policy are to:

  • Ensure persistent identification of scholarly articles.

  • Improve discoverability through accurate metadata.

  • Facilitate citation linking and interoperability.

  • Support long-term preservation of the scholarly record.

  • Enhance indexing in bibliographic databases and search engines.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all scholarly content published by JAIIM, including:

  • Original Research Articles.

  • Review Articles.

  • Case Reports.

  • Short Communications.

  • Editorials.

  • Letters to the Editor.

  • Corrigenda.

  • Retractions.

  • Supplementary materials, where applicable.

3. Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs)

JAIIM assigns a unique and persistent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to each published article through Crossref. A DOI provides a permanent and stable link to the published Version of Record, ensuring reliable access even if the article's web address changes.

Authors are encouraged to cite the DOI when referencing JAIIM publications and to include DOIs for cited references whenever available.

In addition to article DOIs, authors are encouraged to deposit supporting research outputs—such as datasets, research software, source code, protocols, supplementary materials, and multimedia files—in trusted public repositories that assign persistent identifiers, including Zenodo, Figshare, Dryad, and institutional repositories. Where available, repository DOIs should be cited within the manuscript to enhance transparency, reproducibility, and long-term accessibility.

Persistent identifiers assigned by repositories such as Zenodo complement article DOIs by ensuring that all associated research outputs remain discoverable, citable, and permanently accessible.

4. Metadata Standards

For each published article, JAIIM maintains comprehensive metadata, which may include:

  • Article title.

  • Author names and affiliations.

  • ORCID iDs (where provided).

  • Abstract.

  • Keywords.

  • Publication date.

  • Volume, issue, and page or article number.

  • DOI.

  • Funding information.

  • References.

  • Licensing information.

  • Article type.

Accurate metadata enhances the visibility and accessibility of published research.

5. Metadata Quality

The Editorial Office makes reasonable efforts to ensure that deposited metadata are:

  • Accurate.

  • Complete.

  • Consistent.

  • Up to date.

  • Compatible with international metadata standards.

Authors are responsible for providing accurate information during manuscript submission.

6. Metadata Updates

If errors affecting article metadata are identified after publication, JAIIM will update the metadata as appropriate.

Examples include:

  • Author name corrections.

  • Affiliation updates.

  • ORCID iD corrections.

  • Funding information updates.

  • Reference corrections.

  • DOI metadata enhancements.

Where necessary, updates will also be deposited with Crossref.

7. Citation Linking

JAIIM participates in citation linking through Crossref to improve scholarly communication.

Authors are encouraged to:

  • Cite sources accurately.

  • Include DOIs for references whenever available.

  • Verify reference accuracy before submission.

Accurate citations improve discoverability and citation integrity.

8. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate bibliographic information.

  • Supplying ORCID iDs where available.

  • Reporting funding information accurately.

  • Verifying references before submission.

  • Promptly notifying the Editorial Office of significant metadata errors.

9. Responsibilities of the Editorial Office

The Editorial Office is responsible for:

  • Assigning DOIs to published articles.

  • Depositing article metadata with Crossref.

  • Updating metadata when necessary.

  • Maintaining metadata quality.

  • Supporting indexing and discoverability through standardized metadata practices.

The Journal of AI and Integrative Medicine (JAIIM) is committed to maintaining accurate metadata and persistent Digital Object Identifiers to ensure the long-term discoverability, accessibility, citation, and preservation of published research.

Through the use of internationally recognized metadata standards and DOI registration, JAIIM supports reliable scholarly communication and contributes to the integrity of the global scientific record.
