Authorship and Contributorship Policy

The Journal of AI and Integrative Medicine (JAIIM) is committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness in the attribution of authorship. The journal follows internationally recognized principles for authorship and encourages the use of the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to accurately describe each contributor's role in the research and publication process.

Only individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions to the work should be listed as authors. All authors share responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the published research.

1. Purpose

The objectives of this policy are to:

  • Promote responsible authorship practices.

  • Ensure appropriate recognition of contributors.

  • Prevent authorship disputes.

  • Improve transparency in research contributions.

  • Support compliance with international publishing standards.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to JAIIM, including:

  • Original Research Articles

  • Review Articles

  • Clinical Studies

  • Case Reports

  • Short Communications

  • Editorials

  • Letters to the Editor

3. Criteria for Authorship

JAIIM follows the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

An author should normally meet all of the following criteria:

  • Make a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.

  • Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

  • Approve the final version of the manuscript before submission.

  • Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work and to assist in resolving questions related to its accuracy or integrity.

Individuals who do not meet these criteria should not be listed as authors.

4. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • Managing all communication with the journal.

  • Ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria.

  • Confirming that all authors have approved the final manuscript.

  • Obtaining agreement from all authors before submission.

  • Providing accurate author information.

  • Communicating editorial decisions to co-authors.

  • Coordinating responses during peer review and publication.

5. Equal Contribution

Where two or more authors have contributed equally to the work, this may be indicated in the published article upon request.

Authors should clearly identify equal contributions during manuscript submission.

6. Contributor Roles (CRediT Taxonomy)

JAIIM encourages authors to describe individual contributions using the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy).

Examples of contributor roles include:

  • Conceptualization

  • Methodology

  • Software

  • Validation

  • Formal Analysis

  • Investigation

  • Resources

  • Data Curation

  • Writing – Original Draft

  • Writing – Review & Editing

  • Visualization

  • Supervision

  • Project Administration

  • Funding Acquisition

Including contributor roles promotes transparency and ensures appropriate recognition of each contributor.

7. Acknowledgements

Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately.

Examples include:

  • Technical assistance.

  • Administrative support.

  • Language editing.

  • Statistical consultation.

  • General supervision.

  • Funding support.

Authors should obtain permission from acknowledged individuals before including their names.

8. Changes in Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after manuscript submission must be submitted in writing to the Editorial Office.

Such requests should include:

  • A clear explanation for the proposed change.

  • Written consent from all authors.

  • Supporting documentation if requested.

The journal reserves the right to suspend editorial processing until authorship issues have been resolved.

9. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

JAIIM does not permit unethical authorship practices, including:

  • Gift (Honorary) Authorship.

  • Guest Authorship.

  • Ghost Authorship.

  • Purchased Authorship.

  • False attribution of contributions.

Such practices constitute publication misconduct and may result in rejection or retraction of the article.

10. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI systems and large language models, cannot be listed as authors.

AI systems cannot:

  • Accept responsibility for published work.

  • Approve manuscripts.

  • Declare conflicts of interest.

  • Meet internationally accepted authorship criteria.

Authors who use AI tools during manuscript preparation must comply with the journal's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy and remain fully responsible for all submitted content.

11. Responsibilities of Authors

All authors are expected to:

  • Ensure that the submitted work is original.

  • Participate actively in the research and manuscript preparation.

  • Approve the final version of the manuscript.

  • Accept responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the work.

  • Disclose any conflicts of interest.

  • Comply with the journal's ethical and publication policies.

  • Cooperate with editorial inquiries before and after publication.

Each author shares responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.

12. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for:

  • Evaluating authorship-related concerns fairly and objectively.

  • Requesting clarification when authorship disputes arise.

  • Ensuring compliance with the journal's Authorship Policy.

  • Maintaining confidentiality throughout investigations.

  • Following internationally recognized publication ethics guidance when resolving authorship disputes.

Editors may request supporting documentation when necessary.

13. Authorship Disputes

JAIIM encourages authors to resolve authorship issues before manuscript submission.

If disputes arise during editorial review or after publication, the journal may:

  • Request written statements from all authors.

  • Seek clarification from the corresponding author.

  • Request documentation from affiliated institutions.

  • Suspend editorial processing until the dispute is resolved.

  • Follow guidance issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The journal is not responsible for determining legal ownership of authorship but will take appropriate editorial action where necessary.

14. Post-Publication Changes in Authorship

Changes to authorship after publication are permitted only in exceptional circumstances.

Where approved, the journal may publish a formal correction to update the authorship record.

15. Research Misconduct Related to Authorship

The following practices are considered serious breaches of publication ethics:

  • False authorship claims.

  • Forged author consent.

  • Misrepresentation of individual contributions.

  • Deliberate concealment of contributors.

Confirmed misconduct may result in:

  • Rejection of the manuscript.

  • Retraction of the published article.

  • Notification of affiliated institutions.

  • Restriction on future submissions where appropriate.
