1. Introduction

Welcome to the Journal of AI and Integrative Medicine (JAIIM), an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Novadex Publications.

JAIIM provides a multidisciplinary platform for the publication of high-quality research that advances the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with medicine, healthcare, biomedical sciences, digital health, and integrative medicine. The journal welcomes innovative research that contributes to improving patient care, healthcare systems, clinical decision-making, disease prevention, precision medicine, and public health through interdisciplinary scientific collaboration.

The journal publishes original, scientifically rigorous, ethically conducted, and clinically relevant research. All submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous Double-Blind Peer Review process conducted by independent experts before editorial decisions are made.

Authors are encouraged to carefully read these guidelines before submitting a manuscript. Compliance with these instructions will facilitate efficient editorial processing and peer review.

3. Types of Manuscripts

JAIIM accepts the following categories of manuscripts.

Original Research Articles

Reports of original scientific investigations presenting novel findings.

Recommended length:

  • 3,000–8,000 words

  • Up to 10 figures or tables

  • Structured abstract

  • No fixed limit on references where scientifically justified

Review Articles

Comprehensive and critical reviews summarizing current evidence and future research directions.

Recommended length:

  • 4,000–10,000 words

Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses

Systematic evidence syntheses prepared according to internationally recognized reporting standards such as PRISMA.

Short Communications

Brief reports describing important preliminary findings, innovative methods, or significant observations.

Recommended length:

  • Up to 2,500 words

Case Reports

Clinically important or educationally valuable case reports that provide novel insights into diagnosis, treatment, AI-assisted clinical decision-making, or integrative medicine.

Authors are encouraged to follow the CARE reporting guidelines.

Case Series

Reports describing multiple patients with similar clinical presentations or interventions.

Clinical Trial Reports

Reports of completed clinical trials should follow the CONSORT Statement and include clinical trial registration details where applicable.

Methodology Articles

Descriptions of innovative methodologies, computational models, software tools, laboratory techniques, or analytical frameworks.

Technical Notes

Brief descriptions of innovative technologies, algorithms, software, medical devices, or engineering developments.

Study Protocols

Protocols describing planned clinical studies or research projects of significant scientific value.

Perspectives

Expert opinions discussing emerging trends, challenges, and future directions.

Commentaries

Short articles providing scholarly discussion of recently published research or current issues.

Editorials

Invited articles written by editors or invited experts.

Letters to the Editor

Short communications discussing recently published articles or issues relevant to the journal's scope.

4. General Submission Requirements

Authors submitting manuscripts to JAIIM must ensure that:

  • The manuscript is original.

  • The work has not been published previously.

  • The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal.

  • All authors approve the submission.

  • Appropriate ethical approvals have been obtained where required.

  • All conflicts of interest have been disclosed.

  • Funding information has been provided.

  • All references are accurate and complete.

  • AI-assisted tools used during manuscript preparation have been disclosed where applicable.

Submissions that do not comply with these requirements may be returned before peer review.

5. Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts should be prepared in clear, concise, and grammatically correct English.

Authors are encouraged to use either British or American English consistently throughout the manuscript.

Recommended file format:

  • Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)

General formatting recommendations:

  • A4 page size

  • 12-point Times New Roman font

  • Double line spacing

  • Continuous page numbering

  • Continuous line numbering (recommended)

  • Standard margins of 2.5 cm (1 inch) on all sides

  • Left-aligned text

  • Automatic page numbering

Scientific names should be italicized where appropriate.

Standard International System of Units (SI Units) should be used throughout the manuscript.

Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter.

6. Title Page

The Title Page should be submitted as a separate file to preserve the integrity of the double-blind peer review process.

The Title Page should include:

  • Full manuscript title

  • Running title (maximum 50 characters)

  • Full names of all authors

  • Institutional affiliations

  • ORCID iDs (recommended)

  • Corresponding author's name

  • Corresponding author's email address

  • Postal address

  • Telephone number (optional)

  • Funding information

  • Conflict of Interest statement

  • Author contribution statement

  • Acknowledgements (if applicable)

7. Abstract and Keywords

Every manuscript submitted to the Journal of AI and Integrative Medicine (JAIIM) must include an abstract and keywords.

The abstract should provide a concise summary of the study and accurately reflect the content of the manuscript.

Original Research Articles

A structured abstract of 250–350 words should include the following headings:

  • Background

  • Objectives

  • Methods

  • Results

  • Conclusions

The abstract should not contain:

  • References

  • Figures or tables

  • Undefined abbreviations

  • Citations

Review Articles

Review articles should include an unstructured abstract of approximately 200–300 words summarizing the purpose, key findings, and conclusions.

Case Reports

Case reports should include a concise abstract describing:

  • Background

  • Case Presentation

  • Clinical Outcome

  • Clinical Significance

Keywords

Authors should provide 3–8 keywords immediately below the abstract.

Keywords should:

  • Reflect the major topics of the manuscript.

  • Use internationally recognized terminology.

  • Preferably correspond to Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) where appropriate.

8. Main Manuscript Structure

The manuscript should generally be organized in the following order:

Different article types may require minor modifications to this structure.

9. Structure of Original Research Articles

Original Research Articles should generally follow the IMRAD format.

Introduction

The Introduction should:

  • Present the scientific background.

  • Summarize relevant literature.

  • Identify existing knowledge gaps.

  • Clearly state the study objectives or hypotheses.

Avoid an extensive literature review.

Materials and Methods

This section should provide sufficient detail to allow replication of the study.

Include information on:

  • Study design

  • Study setting

  • Participants or samples

  • Inclusion and exclusion criteria

  • Data collection methods

  • Experimental procedures

  • Equipment and software

  • AI models or algorithms (where applicable)

  • Statistical analysis

  • Ethical approval

  • Clinical trial registration (if applicable)

Authors should provide sufficient methodological detail to support reproducibility.

Results

Present findings clearly without interpretation.

Results may include:

  • Tables

  • Figures

  • Graphs

  • Statistical analyses

  • Confidence intervals

  • Effect sizes

  • Performance metrics for AI models (e.g., Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F1-score, AUROC) where appropriate

Avoid repeating the same data in both tables and figures.

Discussion

The Discussion should:

  • Interpret the findings.

  • Compare results with previous studies.

  • Explain clinical or scientific significance.

  • Discuss strengths and limitations.

  • Suggest future research directions.

Avoid repeating numerical results already presented.

Conclusion

The Conclusion should:

  • Summarize the principal findings.

  • Highlight the significance of the study.

  • Avoid introducing new data.

  • Clearly state the implications for research, clinical practice, or healthcare policy where appropriate.

10. Tables

Tables should:

  • Be created using the table function of the word processor.

  • Be numbered consecutively (Table 1, Table 2, etc.).

  • Include concise titles.

  • Be cited in the text.

  • Avoid duplication of data presented elsewhere.

Footnotes should explain abbreviations and statistical symbols.

11. Figures and Illustrations

Figures should be of high quality and suitable for publication.

Recommended formats include:

  • TIFF

  • PNG

  • JPEG

  • EPS (where appropriate)

Recommended minimum resolution:

  • 300 dpi for photographs

  • 600 dpi for line artwork

  • 1200 dpi for graphs and diagrams where possible

Each figure should:

  • Be numbered consecutively.

  • Include a descriptive legend.

  • Be cited in the manuscript.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material.

12. Supplementary Material

Supplementary files may include:

  • Additional datasets

  • Large tables

  • Computer code

  • Software documentation

  • Multimedia files

  • Video demonstrations

  • AI model documentation

  • Extended methodological descriptions

Supplementary material should enhance—but not replace—the main manuscript.

13. Equations and Mathematical Expressions

Equations should:

  • Be prepared using an equation editor.

  • Be numbered consecutively when referenced.

  • Define all variables upon first use.

Mathematical notation should remain consistent throughout the manuscript.

14. References

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all references are:

  • Accurate

  • Complete

  • Current

  • Relevant

  • Cited appropriately within the text

Where available, authors are encouraged to include:

  • DOI numbers

  • PubMed IDs

  • URLs for publicly accessible datasets

References should primarily consist of peer-reviewed scholarly literature.

Authors should avoid excessive self-citation or inappropriate citation practices.

15. Reference Style

JAIIM currently follows the Vancouver Citation Style, widely used in biomedical and medical journals.

17. Language Editing

Authors are responsible for submitting manuscripts written in clear, grammatically correct English.

If English is not the authors' first language, professional language editing before submission is strongly recommended.

Language editing does not guarantee acceptance but may facilitate peer review and editorial evaluation.

18. Ethical Requirements

The Journal of AI and Integrative Medicine (JAIIM) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity and publication ethics.

All submitted manuscripts must comply with internationally recognized ethical principles, including the recommendations of:

20. Informed Consent

For studies involving human participants, authors must confirm that informed consent was obtained before participation.

Where applicable, manuscripts should include statements regarding:

  • Written informed consent

  • Publication consent for identifiable information or images

  • Protection of participant confidentiality

Personal information capable of identifying participants should not be published unless explicit written consent has been obtained.

21. Animal Research

Studies involving animals must comply with institutional, national, and international animal welfare guidelines.

Authors should provide:

  • Name of the Animal Ethics Committee

  • Approval number

  • Confirmation that animal suffering was minimized

  • Compliance with recognized animal welfare standards

The journal reserves the right to request supporting ethical documentation.

22. Clinical Trial Registration

Prospective clinical trials should be registered in a publicly accessible clinical trial registry before enrollment of the first participant.

Acceptable registries include:

  • EU Clinical Trials Register

The manuscript should include:

Failure to register applicable clinical trials may affect editorial consideration.

23. Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Assisted Writing Policy

Authors may use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools solely to improve:

  • Language quality

  • Grammar

  • Readability

  • Coding assistance

  • Data visualization

  • Literature organization

Authors must disclose any use of AI tools within the manuscript.

Example disclosure:

"The authors used an AI-assisted language editing tool to improve grammar and readability. All scientific content, interpretation, analysis, and conclusions were prepared and verified by the authors."

AI systems:

  • Cannot be listed as authors.

  • Cannot assume responsibility for published work.

  • Cannot approve manuscripts.

  • Cannot hold copyright.

Authors remain fully responsible for every aspect of the manuscript.

24. AI-Generated Images, Data, and Multimedia

Images, figures, videos, datasets, or graphical abstracts generated wholly or partly using AI technologies must be clearly disclosed.

Authors should describe:

  • The AI software used

  • Version (if available)

  • Purpose of AI use

  • Any subsequent human editing or verification

AI-generated content must not misrepresent research findings or fabricate scientific evidence.

Editors may request original source files during peer review.

25. Data Availability Statement

Every research article should include a Data Availability Statement.

Examples include:

  • Data are available within the manuscript and supplementary files.

  • Data are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.

  • Data have been deposited in a public repository.

  • Data cannot be shared due to ethical, legal, or confidentiality restrictions.

Authors are encouraged to deposit datasets in recognized repositories whenever possible.

26. Funding Statement

Authors must disclose all sources of financial support.

The Funding Statement should include:

  • Funding agency

  • Grant number (if applicable)

  • Role of the funding organization in the research

If no funding was received, authors should state:

"The authors received no external funding for this research."

27. Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial or non-financial relationships that could influence the research.

Examples include:

If no conflicts exist, authors should state:

  • Facilitates accurate attribution of scholarly work.

  • Supports research integrity.

Authors may include their ORCID iDs on the Title Page.

30. Acknowledgements

Individuals or organizations who contributed to the work but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged.

Examples include:

  • Statistical consultation

  • Language editing

  • Administrative support

  • Laboratory assistance

Authors must obtain permission from acknowledged individuals before publication.

31. Copyright

Authors retain copyright of their published work.

Upon acceptance, authors grant the Journal of AI and Integrative Medicine (JAIIM) and Novadex Publications a non-exclusive license to publish, archive, preserve, and disseminate the article.

Authors remain free to:

  • Share the published article.

  • Deposit the article in institutional repositories.

  • Include the work in theses or dissertations.

  • Reuse the work in future publications with appropriate citation.

32. Open Access Policy

JAIIM is a fully Open Access journal.

All published articles are made immediately and permanently available online without subscription fees or access restrictions.

Failure to obtain necessary permissions may delay publication or result in rejection.

 

35. Article Processing Charges (APC)

Article Processing Charges (APC) Policy

Overview

The Journal of AI and Integrative Medicine (JAIIM) is an international, peer-reviewed, fully Open Access journal published by Novadex Publications.

To support the costs associated with manuscript processing, peer review management, copyediting, typesetting, DOI registration, online publication, website maintenance, long-term digital preservation, and dissemination of scholarly content, an Article Processing Charge (APC) is payable only after a manuscript has been accepted for publication.

There are no submission charges. Authors are not required to pay any fee during manuscript submission or peer review.

No Influence on Editorial Decisions

Payment of the APC does not guarantee acceptance or publication.

Editorial decisions are made independently by the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board based solely on:

  • Scientific quality

  • Originality

  • Methodological rigor

  • Ethical compliance

  • Relevance to the journal's scope

  • Peer reviewer recommendations

The editorial process is completely independent of financial considerations.

Payment Policy

Authors will receive APC payment instructions only after the manuscript has been formally accepted.

Payment should not be made before acceptance unless specifically requested by the Editorial Office.

APC Waiver and Discounts

JAIIM supports equitable access to scholarly publishing.

Authors who are unable to pay the APC due to genuine financial hardship may submit a written request for a full or partial waiver.

Waiver requests are evaluated confidentially and independently of the editorial process.

Approval or rejection of a waiver request has no effect on the editorial evaluation or publication decision.

Refund Policy

Once editorial processing and production have commenced following acceptance, APC payments are generally non-refundable.

Refunds may only be considered in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the Publisher.

Taxes and Bank Charges

Authors are responsible for any applicable:

  • Taxes imposed by their financial institution or country

Open Access License

36. Waiver Policy

JAIIM is committed to supporting high-quality research from around the world.

Authors who are unable to pay the APC due to financial constraints may request a full or partial waiver before or during manuscript submission.

Waiver requests are evaluated independently of the peer review process.

Granting a waiver has no influence on editorial decisions.

37. Submission Process

All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) manuscript submission system.

Authors should:

  • Upload the Title Page separately.

  • Provide metadata for all authors.

A cover letter should accompany every submission.

The cover letter should briefly describe:

  • Why the manuscript fits the scope of JAIIM.

  • Confirmation that the work is original.

  • Confirmation that the manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere.

  • Disclosure of conflicts of interest.

  • Any additional information relevant to the editors.

41. Editorial Decisions

The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to make the final editorial decision.

42. Proofreading

Following acceptance, authors will receive page proofs for review.

Authors should:

  • Review proofs carefully.

  • Correct typographical errors.
